New Feature
"The Cooperative Group Bulletin Board"
John Mendelsohn, Editor-in-Chief
The newest feature in Clinical Cancer Research, "The Cooperative Group Bulletin Board," will allow national and international cooperative groups to communicate their most exciting research to AACR members. Our hope is that this vehicle will enable our readers to become more involved with cooperative group research, which is a powerful means for translating laboratory observations into clinical practice.
In this issue, Dr. Bruce Hillman describes the newly formed American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN), a National Cancer Institute-funded cooperative group. Its major objective is to carry out multi-institutional clinical trials of diagnostic imaging and image-guided therapies. We believe that the formation of this group is timely and of critical importance as we enter an era of increasingly sophisticated imaging techniques (such as computed tomography colonography) that must be validated through large, multicenter trials. In addition, imagings potential as a means to not only diagnose cancers at an earlier stage (e.g., helical computed tomography) but also to both treat (e.g., radiofrequency ablation of tumors) and rapidly monitor the effects of treatment through dynamic imaging methods will play an important role in the modern management of cancer patients.
