The Cover
Cover photograph: Gallery of circulating tumor cell (CTC) images showing examples of intact CTCs, CTC clusters, and irregularly shaped CTCs. Tumor cells were isolated from 7.5 mL of blood from patients with a variety of metastatic carcinomas by using the CellSearch Circulating Tumor Cell Kit (Veridex LLC, Raritan, NJ) and displayed on the CellSpotter Analyzer (Veridex). Nuclei were stained with DAPI (depicted in magenta) and the cytoplasm was stained with a cocktail of antibodies to cytokeratins 8, 18, and 19 (depicted in green). Some of the nuclear images are depicted in white because of the intensity of the cytokeratin staining. See Allard et al. in this issue.
